In the very distant past, the hypnotic and energetic beat/rhythm of the sumazau was produced by beating on a set of nine (9) pieces of brass gongs by the same number of gong-beaters. Until this day, the Kadazan Dusun people of Sabah, Malaysia, retain the very same skill and feel of this unique beat passed down by their forebears .
The sumazau beat is not found in any beat or style program in keyboards in brand-names like Yamaha, Roland, Korg and Casio. The sumazau beat/style can only be produced by feeding in the programming yourself in keyboards that contains functions for recording or creating beat/style program.
